Tracey Anne Neville was born on 21 January 1977 in Bury, Greater Manchester, the twin sister of footballer Phil Neville and younger sister of Manchester United great Gary Neville. She played 81 caps for England between the mid-1990s and 2008, winning bronze medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 World Netball Championships, with spells at Northern Thunder, Leeds Carnegie and, briefly, Australia's Adelaide Thunderbirds. Neville moved into coaching with Team Northumbria in 2011, then took charge of Northern Thunder/Manchester Thunder, winning Netball Superleague titles in 2012 and 2014. Appointed England's interim head coach in March 2015, she was confirmed permanently after guiding the team to bronze at that year's World Cup, and went on to lead England to the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Netball Europe Open Championships. Her defining achievement came at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, where England beat defending champions Australia by a single goal in the final to win the sport's first-ever gold medal for the nation, a result watched by over a million viewers that transformed the sport's UK profile. Neville coached England to a further World Cup bronze in 2019 before stepping down to start a family, the same year her twin brother Phil coached England's women's football team to the same tournament stage. She was awarded the MBE in 2016, returned to Manchester Thunder as a board member, then became the inaugural head coach of Super Netball's Melbourne Mavericks franchise in 2023.
