Eight World Championship titles — the most decorated female surfer in history. The Gold Coast surfer won her first world title as a rookie in 2007 and continued winning into her mid-thirties. Her emphasis on style, flow and connection with the wave over raw power represented an alternative surfing philosophy that proved equally successful at the elite level across two decades.
Stephanie Gilmore was born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales in 1988. She won seven World Surf League Championship titles — the most by any female surfer. She won her first title in 2007 in her rookie year. Her surfing style — smooth, flowing, with exceptional tube-riding — is widely considered the most aesthetically beautiful in women's surfing. She was attacked in a car park in Gold Coast in 2010, suffering head injuries, before returning to competition. She is an accomplished musician and guitar player. She won her seventh title in 2022 aged 34.
