Scoring the overtime winner in Game Seven of the 2015 Finnish championship final for Oulun Kärpät at just 17 launched Sebastian Aho onto hockey's international radar and previewed the composure that would make him the Carolina Hurricanes' franchise centrepiece for the following decade. The Carolina Hurricanes selected Aho in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft, and he made his NHL debut during the 2016-17 season, quickly establishing himself as one of the league's most skilled offensive forwards. Aho developed into Carolina's franchise centrepiece, becoming an alternate captain and one of the most consistently productive scorers in the league, signing a lucrative contract extension that reflected his status as one of the Hurricanes' most important players over the past decade.
