Scott Thomas McLaughlin was born on 10 June 1993 in Christchurch, New Zealand, and moved with his family to Hamilton at three before relocating to Australia's Gold Coast at nine, where he began karting in 1999 and continued chasing his passion for motorsport. McLaughlin made his Supercars Championship debut in 2012, and joined DJR Team Penske in 2017, developing into one of the most dominant drivers in the championship's history. He won three consecutive Supercars titles, in 2018, 2019, and 2020, setting a new single-season record of 18 race wins during his 2019 championship campaign. McLaughlin transitioned to the IndyCar Series full-time with Team Penske in 2021, adapting quickly to open-wheel competition and finishing third in the championship standings in both 2023 and 2024, continuing to be one of the most competitive drivers on the grid. McLaughlin has continued to represent Team Penske in IndyCar, remaining one of the most successful crossover drivers in modern motorsport history, having achieved sustained excellence in both Australian touring car racing and American open-wheel competition.
