Sir Scott Ronald Glyndwr Dixon was born on 22 July 1980 in Brisbane, Australia, to New Zealander parents Ron and Glenys, both dirt race car drivers, who returned to New Zealand when Scott was young, based in Manurewa. He began racing in New Zealand Formula Vee and Formula Ford before winning the Australian Drivers' Championship in 1998. Dixon moved to Indy Lights, winning the 2000 championship, before joining PacWest Racing in the CART series in 2001 and moving to the IndyCar Series with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2002, beginning a partnership that has now spanned more than two decades. Dixon, nicknamed "the Iceman" for his calm, unflappable racecraft, won six IndyCar Series championships — in 2003, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2020 — the second-most in open-wheel racing history behind only A.J. Foyt, and won the Indianapolis 500 in 2008. He holds the record for most wins by an active driver and set the all-time IndyCar starts record in 2025. Dixon was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2024 and knighted by New Zealand in 2025, and continues competing for Chip Ganassi Racing, remaining one of the most statistically dominant drivers in the history of American open-wheel racing.
