Roman Josi was born on 1 June 1990 in Bern, Switzerland, and made his National League debut with SC Bern during the 2006-07 season, becoming one of just four 17-year-olds to play in Switzerland's top division the following year, a rare feat for a player so young. The Nashville Predators selected Josi 38th overall in the 2008 NHL Draft, and he helped SC Bern win the Swiss championship in 2010 before joining the Predators organisation, quickly becoming a mainstay in Nashville's lineup and defensive corps. Josi became the first Swiss player and first player in Predators franchise history to win the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman in 2020, and has set numerous franchise records for career points, assists, and shots along the way. Josi has captained both the Predators and Switzerland's Olympic team, being named Team Switzerland's captain for the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, and remains one of the most decorated and consistently dominant defencemen in the modern NHL.
