Randy Gene Moss was born on 13 February 1977 in Rand, West Virginia, and starred at DuPont High School before playing college football at Florida State and later Marshall University, where he set numerous NCAA freshman receiving records. The Minnesota Vikings selected Moss 21st overall in the 1998 NFL Draft after his draft stock fell amid off-field concerns, and he delivered one of the greatest rookie seasons by a wide receiver in NFL history, immediately establishing himself as one of the most dominant deep threats the league had seen. Moss set the single-season receiving touchdown record with 23 in 2007 while playing for the New England Patriots, helping the team to a perfect 16-0 regular season, and finished his 14-year career with 156 receiving touchdowns, the second-most in NFL history at the time of his retirement.
