Quincy Hall was born on 31 July 1998 in Kansas City, Missouri, and progressed through community college athletics in California, winning multiple state titles in the 400m and 400m hurdles, before earning All-American honours at the University of South Carolina. Hall developed into one of the finest 400m runners in the world, capable of also competing over hurdles, and set his personal best of 43.40 seconds at the 2024 Paris Olympics on his way to a historic gold medal in the men's individual event. Hall delivered a dramatic, come-from-behind victory in the 400m final at the 2024 Paris Games, overtaking the field in the closing metres of the race to win Olympic gold in his very first Games appearance, one of the standout moments of the athletics programme.
