The most famous American female skier — Olympic gold and comeback from a near-career-ending knee injury.
Picabo Street was born in Triumph, Idaho in 1971 — her unconventional name was given to allow her to name herself as a child (she chose Picabo after the town near her birthplace). She won 14 World Cup races. She won Olympic silver in the downhill at Lillehammer 1994 and gold in the super-G at Nagano 1998. She suffered a catastrophic knee injury in 1998 — tearing both ACL and MCL — and required 18 months of rehabilitation before returning. She became the most recognisable American female alpine skier of her era.
