Owen Power became the first defenceman in Canadian World Junior Championship history to record a hat-trick and the first Michigan Wolverine ever drafted first overall — taken by the Buffalo Sabres in 2021 — before representing Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics and leading the team in ice time. The Buffalo Sabres selected Power first overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, becoming the first Michigan Wolverine ever chosen with the top pick, and he made his NHL debut in April 2022 following the conclusion of his collegiate season.
