Owen Power was born on 22 November 2002 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and chose college hockey over Canadian junior leagues, playing for the University of Michigan Wolverines after being selected by both the Flint Firebirds of the OHL and the Chicago Steel of the USHL. The Buffalo Sabres selected Power first overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, becoming the first Michigan Wolverine ever chosen with the top pick, and he made his NHL debut in April 2022 following the conclusion of his collegiate season. Power represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, leading the team in ice time, and became the first defenceman in Canadian World Junior Championship history to record a hat-trick, developing into one of the league's most promising young blueliners standing at 6 feet 6 inches.
