Elite cornerback for the Patriots and Raiders, winning Super Bowl XVIII with Los Angeles.

Michael James Haynes was born on 1 July 1953 in Denison, Texas, and attended John Marshall High School in Los Angeles before playing college football at Arizona State, earning two-time All-American honours. The New England Patriots selected Haynes fifth overall in the 1976 NFL Draft, and he delivered an extraordinary rookie season, recording eight interceptions and returning punts for two touchdowns, becoming both NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection in his debut year. Haynes developed into one of the finest cornerbacks in NFL history, renowned for his speed, physicality, and range, and after playing out his option with the Patriots, was traded to the Los Angeles Raiders in 1983, helping the team win Super Bowl XVIII that season. Haynes earned nine Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honours across his 14-season career, finishing with 46 career interceptions, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997, later being named to both the NFL's 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams as one of the greatest defensive backs the sport has produced.
