Kishane Thompson was born on 17 July 2001 in Mitchell Town, Jamaica, and was scouted in 2019 by coach Paul Francis, who arranged a scholarship for him to attend the University of Technology, where he is studying for a degree in sports management. Thompson, nicknamed "Bigga," trains under the Francis brothers, Paul and Stephen, at the famed MVP club in Jamaica, and developed into one of the fastest sprinters in the world, combining a strong start with an unusually powerful finish for a man of his height and build. Thompson won silver in the 100m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing narrowly behind American Noah Lyles in one of the closest finishes in Olympic history, and has continued to establish himself among the sport's leading sprinters. Thompson set a world best of 14.92 seconds for the 150m on a curved track in 2026, breaking a mark held by Linford Christie since 1994, and has continued competing at the top level of Jamaican and world sprinting, remaining one of the most exciting young talents in the 100m.
