Elaine Thompson-Herah was born in Banana Ground, Jamaica in 1992 and became the fastest living woman in history and the first female sprinter to win the 100m and 200m double at two consecutive Olympic Games — Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021. She competed for Jamaica from 2014. At Tokyo 2021 she ran 10.61 seconds in the 100m final and 21.53 seconds in the 200m — the latter the second-fastest women's 200m in history, behind only Florence Griffith-Joyner's 1988 world record of 21.34. Her personal best of 10.54 seconds for 100m makes her the second-fastest woman in history. She won 5 Olympic gold medals across 2 Games. She won the World Championship 100m title in Eugene 2022. She was IAAF Female Athlete of the Year in 2021. Her dominance of women's sprinting from 2016 to 2022 — during which time she won every major championship 100m she entered — places her alongside the finest female sprinters in history. Her combination of explosive start, powerful acceleration and upright running style is technically distinctive from Jamaica's sprinting tradition.
