Won 122 consecutive races over nearly a decade.

Edwin Corley Moses was born on 31 August 1955 in Dayton, Ohio, the second of three sons to parents who were both educators, and turned to track and field after being cut from his high school basketball team and dismissed from football for fighting. Moses accepted an academic scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta, studying physics, and had run only one 400m hurdles race before qualifying for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where he won gold and set a world record of 47.64 seconds in his first major international competition. Moses embarked on one of the most dominant winning streaks in sports history, remaining unbeaten in the 400m hurdles for nearly ten years, from August 1977 to June 1987, across 122 consecutive races, and set four successive world records during that span. Moses missed the 1980 Moscow Olympics due to the U.S. boycott but defended his title at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, becoming only the second man to win two Olympic golds in the event. He earned an MBA from Pepperdine University, became an influential advocate against steroid use in athletics, and later competed at a world-class level in bobsledding, remaining one of the most intellectually distinguished and dominant athletes his sport has produced.
