Undefeated UFC lightweight champion who retired with a perfect 29-0 record.
Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov was born in Sildi, Dagestan, Russia in 1988. His father Abdulmanap trained him in sambo and wrestling from childhood. He retired with a perfect 29-0 professional record in October 2020. He won the UFC lightweight title in 2018 and made three successful defences — defeating Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. His wrestling dominance — takedown accuracy and ground control — made him near-impossible to defend against. He retired following his submission of Gaethje, citing a promise to his mother after his father's death from COVID-19. He is the greatest lightweight in UFC history.
