Keely Hodgkinson was born on 3 March 2002 in England, and developed rapidly into one of the finest middle-distance runners of her generation, winning silver in the 800m at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a teenager. Hodgkinson won Olympic gold in the 800m at the 2024 Paris Games, delivering one of the standout British performances of the Games, and has continued to develop her range across middle-distance events. Hodgkinson delivered a historic performance in February 2026, smashing the world indoor 800m record in Liévin, France, with a time of 1:54.87, breaking a mark set by Slovenia's Jolanda Ceplak on the very day Hodgkinson herself was born in 2002. Hodgkinson became the only British woman currently holding an outdoor or indoor world record in a championship event, joining triple jumper Jonathan Edwards among Britain's active record holders, and has continued to battle back from injury setbacks to remain one of the most dominant 800m runners in the world.
