Geraldina Rachel Asher-Smith was born on 4 December 1995 in Orpington, London, England, and developed into Britain's most successful female sprinter in a generation while studying history at King's College London, training throughout her career with Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club. Asher-Smith won gold in the 200m at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, becoming the first British woman to win a global 100m or 200m title, and set British records in both the 100m and 200m during that same championship meeting. Asher-Smith has represented Great Britain at multiple Olympic Games, winning Olympic medals in relay events, and has continued to be one of the most consistent and respected sprinters in the world across more than a decade at the top level of the sport. Asher-Smith was appointed MBE for her services to athletics, and remains one of the most decorated British sprinters in history, having combined academic achievement at university level with sustained excellence on the track throughout her lengthy career.
