The most dominant female swimmer in history — world records by margins never seen in the sport.
Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky was born in Washington DC in 1997. She won her first Olympic gold at the London 2012 Olympics at 15 — qualifying as one of only two American women to make the Olympic team at that age. She holds world records in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle — and some of her records are so far ahead of rivals' personal bests that they have stood for years without serious challenge. Her margin of victory in the 800m — sometimes 10-12 seconds ahead of silver — has no parallel in any Olympic event. She was the 2024 Olympics' most decorated individual swimmer.
