In 2022, Jermell Charlo became the first undisputed light middleweight champion of the four-belt era by defeating Brian Castañó in their rematch, unifying the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO titles at 154 pounds in the signature performance of a career defined by relentless ambition. The brothers began boxing after following their father, a former boxer, into the gym, with Jermell winning a bronze medal at the 2005 Junior Olympics at just 15 and finishing his amateur career with 56 wins against eight losses. Charlo turned professional in 2007 and developed into one of the finest light middleweights of his generation, becoming a two-time world champion at 154 pounds. In 2022, he defeated Brian Castaño in a rematch to become the first undisputed light middleweight champion of the four-belt era, unifying the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO titles.
