Jalen Devonn Williams was born on 14 April 2001 in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, attending Perry High School, where he was rated only a three-star recruit with no Power Five scholarship offers, ultimately committing to Santa Clara University over Hofstra. Williams spent three seasons at Santa Clara, earning first-team All-WCC honours as a junior while averaging 18 points and 4.2 assists per game, becoming the first Santa Clara player selected in the NBA Draft's first round since Steve Nash in 1996. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Williams 12th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, and he developed rapidly into one of the league's most well-rounded young wings, nicknamed "J-Dub," earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honours before his first All-Star selection and All-NBA Third Team recognition in 2025. Williams played a key role in the Oklahoma City Thunder's 2025 NBA championship, earning NBA All-Defensive Second Team honours the same season, and Santa Clara retired his No. 24 jersey in recognition of a college-to-NBA journey built on a recruiting profile far more modest than the player he became.
