Freddy Loix, nicknamed 'Fast Freddy', is a Belgian rally driver who won his home Ypres Rally a record 11 times and became the most successful driver in the FIA Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
Freddy Loix's eleven victories at the Ypres Rally — a record unmatched in the event's history — turned him into one of Belgian rallying's defining figures across three decades, even as a single outright WRC victory eluded him across 93 starts. Nicknamed 'Fast Freddy,' he joined the Marlboro World Championship Team in 1993, becoming Belgian F2 champion, and made his World Rally Championship debut that year. Loix switched to four-wheel drive machinery in 1996 with a Toyota Celica GT-Four, and that June won the first of what would become a record 11 victories at his home Ypres Rally, a race that became synonymous with his name over the following two decades. He went on to drive factory cars for Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Peugeot in the World Rally Championship through 2004, taking three podiums and 34 stage wins across 93 rallies without a single outright victory, before stepping back from full-time WRC competition after the 2004 Rally Catalunya. Loix found his greatest sustained success in the FIA Intercontinental Rally Challenge from 2007, becoming the series' most successful-ever driver with seven wins, including a hat-trick in 2010. He won a fourth Belgian Rally Championship title in 2016, retiring from full-time competition that November, though he made a rare comeback in 2022, competing in the Monte Carlo Rally 17 years after his last full WRC season, and continued making appearances at the Ypres Rally into the mid-2020s.
