Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon was born in Kiptopeswa, Kenya in 1994. She has won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500 metres — at Rio 2016, Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 — making her the most decorated Olympic middle-distance runner in history. She holds the world record for the 1500 metres (3:49.04) and the mile. She has won four World Championship titles. Her third consecutive Olympic gold in Paris 2024 — in front of the most watched athletics audience in decades — produced one of the Paris Games' most celebrated individual performances. Her combination of tactical intelligence and finishing speed has made her the definitive 1500-metre runner of her era. She returned from maternity leave to win the Tokyo 2021 gold — a comeback story that resonated across athletics. She is considered the greatest female middle-distance runner since Sonia O'Sullivan.
