Versatile and underrated defensive guard whose elite shot-blocking and winning pedigree earned him an NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics.
Derrick White was born in Parker, Colorado on 2 July 1994. One of the NBA's most versatile and intellectually intelligent defenders, White is unique as a guard who regularly ranks among the league's best shot-blockers — an almost unheard-of combination. He was a late bloomer, going undrafted from UC Santa Barbara before signing with San Antonio Spurs, where Gregg Popovich developed him into a respected two-way player. Boston acquired him in February 2022 and he became a key part of their title push. He won the NBA Championship with the Celtics in 2024, providing perimeter defence, versatile switching and increasingly reliable three-point shooting. His intelligence, IQ and the variety of ways he impacts winning make him one of the NBA's most respected two-way guards.
