Daniel Andre Sturridge was born on 1 September 1989 in Birmingham, England, into a footballing family — his father Mike had played professionally, as had his uncles Dean and Simon Sturridge. Young Daniel supported Derby County because of his uncle Dean's association with the club before switching allegiance to Arsenal, and began his own football journey at seven with local club Cadbury Athletic. Sturridge progressed through Aston Villa's academy before moving to Coventry City and then Manchester City, where he became the only player to score in the FA Youth Cup, FA Cup, and Premier League in the same season. Chelsea signed him in 2009, and after a productive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers, he helped Chelsea win the FA Cup and Champions League in 2012. Liverpool signed Sturridge for £12 million in January 2013, and he formed one of the Premier League's most feared strike partnerships alongside Luis Suárez, scoring in each of his first three games for the club. In the 2013-14 season, he finished as the league's second-highest scorer with 21 goals, narrowly missing out on the title with Liverpool in one of the most dramatic title races in Premier League history. Sturridge earned 26 caps for England, representing his country at the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016, though persistent injury problems limited his effectiveness across much of his Liverpool career. He later played for West Bromwich Albion, Turkish club Trabzonspor, and Australian side Perth Glory before retiring, and has since worked as a television pundit for Sky Sports.
