Attack-minded English left-back whose overlapping runs and delivery made him a key part of Chelsea's Champions League-winning side.
Benjamin James Chilwell was born on 21 December 1996 in Milton Keynes, England, and was raised in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, joining Leicester City's academy after starting out at Rushden & Diamonds. He progressed through Leicester's youth system, including a loan spell at Huddersfield Town, before establishing himself as the club's first-choice left-back. Chilwell's performances for Leicester City, including during the club's push for European qualification following their remarkable 2016 Premier League title, established him as one of the most promising young left-backs in English football, combining defensive reliability with an increasingly dangerous attacking contribution down the flank. Chelsea signed Chilwell in 2020, and he became a regular for the club over the following seasons, though injuries — including a serious ACL injury — periodically disrupted his time at Stamford Bridge. He earned his England debut in 2018 and was part of the England squad that reached the final of Euro 2020, one of the country's best major tournament results in decades. After a loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2025, during which he won the FA Cup, Chilwell left Chelsea permanently to join French club Strasbourg, continuing his career in Ligue 1 after five years in the Premier League with Chelsea.
