Daniel Joseph Ricciardo was born on 1 July 1989 in Perth, Western Australia, to Italian-Australian parents, and began competitive kart racing at nine before progressing through Australian and European junior formulae, winning the 2008 Formula Renault West European Cup and the 2009 British Formula Three championship. Ricciardo made his Formula One debut with HRT in 2011, before moving through Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing in 2014, delivering his maiden Grand Prix victory that season in Canada. Renowned for his broad, toothy smile and the "shoey" celebration ritual he popularised — drinking champagne from his own racing shoe on the podium — Ricciardo became one of the most popular and marketable drivers on the grid. Ricciardo won eight Grand Prix across his career, including a memorable victory at the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix driving with a compromised engine for much of the race, before moving to Renault, McLaren, and later returning to the Red Bull family with AlphaTauri and RB.
