Christijan Albers is a Dutch former racing driver who competed in Formula 1 for Minardi, Midland, and Spyker, and later briefly served as team principal of the Caterham F1 team.
Christijan Albers won the German Formula 3 championship in 1999, became the Netherlands' most successful DTM driver with five wins and runner-up in the 2003 championship, and reached Formula 1 with Minardi in 2005 after an unconventional route through touring cars rather than the traditional junior single-seater ladder. He won the Benelux Formula Ford Championship in his first season racing cars, before progressing to Formula 3 with Van Amersfoort Racing and winning the German Formula 3 championship in 1999. Albers took an unusual route to Formula 1 via the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), where he won five races and finished runner-up in the 2003 championship, becoming the Netherlands' most successful DTM driver. After testing for Minardi as early as 2001, he finally earned a full-time F1 seat with the team in 2005, scoring his only championship points with a fifth-place finish at that year's chaotic Michelin-tyre-affected United States Grand Prix. Albers moved to the Dutch-backed Midland team (later renamed Spyker) for 2006 and 2007, and produced the most memorable moment of his F1 career at the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix, walking away unhurt after being launched into a series of barrel rolls following a collision with Yuji Ide. He was dropped by Spyker midway through the 2007 season after struggling to match new teammate Adrian Sutil's pace, ending his F1 career with 46 starts. Albers returned to the DTM in 2008, and in 2014 briefly served as team principal and CEO of the Caterham F1 team following its sale to new owners, before the team collapsed at the end of that season.
