Angela Ruggiero is an American defenceman who won four Olympic medals, including gold in 1998, and became the first woman inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame's main honoured category with major awards recognition.

Angela Marie Ruggiero was born on 3 January 1980 in Panorama City, California, and developed into one of the finest defencemen in the history of women's hockey, starring at Harvard University, where she won the Patty Kazmaier Award in her senior year of 2004. Ruggiero represented the United States at four consecutive Winter Olympics, winning gold in 1998, silver in 2002 and 2010, and bronze in 2006, and competed in ten IIHF Women's World Championships, winning four gold and six silver medals. Ruggiero made history on 28 January 2005, becoming the first woman to play in a regular-season professional hockey game in the United States who was not a goaltender, suiting up for the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League alongside her brother Bill, marking the first brother-sister combination to play professionally at the same time. Ruggiero was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, becoming just the fourth woman and the only California-born person ever to receive the honour, and served on the International Olympic Committee from 2010 to 2018, chairing the IOC Athletes' Commission from 2016 to 2018, remaining one of the most accomplished administrators to emerge from the sport she once dominated on the ice.
