Angela Ruggiero won Olympic gold with the United States in 1998 and added two silvers and a bronze across four Winter Games, becoming one of the most decorated defenders in the history of American women's hockey. In 2011 she became the first woman to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame having played primarily in women's hockey, and went on to serve on the International Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission, extending her influence over the sport well beyond her playing career.
