Tyler Lockett was born on 28 September 1992 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Nicole Edwards and Kevin Lockett, who played wide receiver at Kansas State from 1993 to 1996 and became the school's all-time leading receiver before a four-team NFL career; Kansas State's longtime coach, Bill Snyder, had also coached Tyler's father and uncle. Lockett starred in football, basketball, and track and field at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa before following his father to Kansas State, where he ultimately surpassed him as the program's all-time leading receiver.
