Stéphane Chapuisat is a Swiss former footballer and Borussia Dortmund's highest-scoring foreign player in Bundesliga history, who won the UEFA Champions League with the club in 1997.
Stéphane Chapuisat scored 102 goals in 218 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund, making him the highest-scoring Swiss player in the competition's history and one of only a handful of foreign players to break the century mark — a tally that included three goals in Dortmund's victorious 1996-97 Champions League run. He began his professional career with Malley before returning to hometown club Lausanne-Sport, and moved to Germany's Bayer Uerdingen in January 1991, joining Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund that summer. Chapuisat scored 20 league goals in his debut Dortmund season, narrowly missing the Bundesliga's top scorer award, and became the club's talismanic striker through the 1990s, winning back-to-back league titles in 1995 and 1996. His finest moment came in the 1996-97 season, when Dortmund won the UEFA Champions League, with Chapuisat scoring three goals across the victorious run, including coming on as a substitute in the final win over Juventus. Chapuisat remained at Dortmund until 1999, finishing with 102 goals in 218 Bundesliga appearances, making him the highest-scoring Swiss player in the league's history and one of only a handful of foreign players to break the 100-goal mark. He earned 103 caps for Switzerland, representing the country at the 1994 World Cup and two European Championships, and was named Swiss Footballer of the Year four times. In 2003, he was named the Golden Player of Switzerland, honouring the country's most outstanding footballer of the previous 50 years, and later became sporting director of BSC Young Boys.
