Stacey Jamie Aroha Kirsten Fluhler, born Stacey Waaka on 3 November 1995, is of Māori descent and affiliates to the Ngāi Tūhoe iwi. At 15, she survived a serious road accident when a truck collided with her school bus, sustaining significant knee injuries but drawing praise for prioritising the safety of younger children on board and calling emergency services despite her own injuries. Fluhler made her debut for New Zealand's fifteen-a-side Black Ferns against Canada in June 2015, the same year her brother Beaudein made his own debut for the New Zealand men's sevens team, and was named Junior Māori Sportswoman of the Year that November. She went on to play a key role in New Zealand's victorious campaigns at both the 2017 and 2021 Women's Rugby World Cups. Fluhler transitioned into sevens rugby during the 2015-16 season and became one of the format's most prolific finishers, helping New Zealand win gold medals at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as the Sevens World Cup and Commonwealth Games titles in 2018. Fluhler graduated from the University of Waikato with a degree in Sport Management in 2017, and continued to compete at the top level of both sevens and fifteens rugby, being named to World Rugby's Women's Sevens Dream Team in 2023 after over a decade as one of New Zealand's most decorated rugby exports.
