Shavkat Baqtibaiuly Rakhmonov was born on 23 October 1994 in Shoʻrchi, Uzbekistan, into a Kazakh family, and later relocated to Kokshetau, Kazakhstan, where he developed into a Master of Sport in both Combat Sambo and mixed martial arts. Rakhmonov, nicknamed "Nomad," turned professional in 2014 and became the M-1 Global Welterweight Champion before signing with the UFC, developing into one of the most feared and avoided welterweights in the promotion, renowned for a rare combination of knockout power and elite submission grappling.
