Scott Moir is a Canadian ice dancer who, with partner Tessa Virtue, became the most decorated figure skater in Olympic history, winning three gold and two silver medals.
Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue share the record for the most Olympic figure skating medals in history — five across three Games — with the centerpiece being their free dance to 'Moulin Rouge' at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, which set the highest score ever recorded in ice dance. He was paired with Tessa Virtue in 1997, when he was ten and she was seven, by coaches at the Ilderton Skating Club — the start of a partnership that would go on to define a generation of Canadian ice dance. Moir and Virtue rose quickly through the junior ranks before breaking through internationally, winning World Championship silver in 2008 and their first World title in 2010. That same year, at the Vancouver Olympics, the pair became the first North Americans ever to win Olympic gold in ice dance, doing so as the youngest ice dance champions in Olympic history and in front of a jubilant home crowd. After adding World titles in 2012 and a silver medal in both the individual and inaugural team ice dance events at Sochi 2014, Moir and Virtue took a two-year break from competition, returning for the 2016-17 season and winning a third World title while going undefeated. They capped their partnership at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, winning gold in both the team event and ice dance — the latter featuring a free dance to 'Moulin Rouge' that scored the highest total ever recorded in the discipline at the time — to bring their combined Olympic medal haul to five, the most of any figure skater in history. Moir and Virtue announced their retirement from competition in September 2018, and Moir has since moved into coaching, serving as head coach and managing director of the International Academy of Montreal's Ontario campus.
