Rhyne Howard was born on 29 April 2000 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Rhvonja "RJ" Avery, a former collegiate basketball player, and James Howard, and graduated from Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee, in 2018 before committing to the University of Kentucky. Howard became a unanimous consensus first-team All-American and two-time SEC Player of the Year at Kentucky, developing into one of the most prolific scoring guards in college basketball and winning FIBA AmeriCup MVP honours with the U.S. national team in 2021. The Atlanta Dream selected Howard first overall in the 2022 WNBA Draft, and she made history in her debut, becoming the first player in league history to score over 30 points in a game as a rookie, going on to win Rookie of the Year and earning consecutive All-Star selections in 2022 and 2023. Howard has continued to be one of the WNBA's most dangerous scorers for the Atlanta Dream, while also serving as an assistant coach at the University of Florida during WNBA offseasons and playing in the Unrivaled 3x3 league, balancing playing and coaching roles as her career has developed.
