Piotr Żyła is a Polish ski jumper and 2x individual World Champion, one of the longest-serving members of Poland's modern ski jumping national team.
At the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf, Piotr Żyła won the large hill individual gold to become Poland's third individual ski jumping world champion in a decade, part of a generation — alongside Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki — that turned Polish ski jumping into the sport's dominant national force. Known for his colourful personality and distinctive moustache, he became a fixture of Poland's national team through its most successful modern era. Żyła's breakthrough came at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, where he won team gold and an individual bronze on the large hill. His greatest individual moment arrived at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf, where, at age 34, he produced a surprise victory to win the individual normal hill title ahead of Germany's home favourite Karl Geiger, celebrating on the course alongside Polish teammates Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch. Żyła added a second individual normal hill world title at the 2023 World Championships in Planica, becoming a two-time individual world champion. He has also collected multiple bronze medals with Poland's team at both the World Championships and Ski Flying World Championships, and competed at the Winter Olympics in 2014 and 2022, remaining one of the most enduring competitors in the modern ski jumping era.
