He attended West Charlotte High School, where he was a four-year varsity starter, finishing his prep career with 1,787 points and being named Mecklenburg County Player of the Year by The Charlotte Observer as a senior. Williams played one season at Florida State University, winning ACC Sixth Man of the Year honours in 2020 despite never starting a game, showcasing the defensive versatility and two-way potential that made him a top prospect.
