Patricio "Pato" O'Ward Junco was born on 6 May 1999 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Patricio O'Ward and Elba Junco, and attended high school in San Antonio, Texas, before progressing through junior single-seater categories in Mexico, Europe, and the United States. O'Ward won the 2018 Indy Lights championship, and made his IndyCar Series debut that same year at Sonoma Raceway with Harding Racing, tying the record for the best finish on debut by a Mexican driver in American open-wheel racing. O'Ward joined Arrow McLaren and was named Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year in 2020, developing into one of the series' most exciting young talents, and was signed to the McLaren Driver Development Programme, serving as a reserve driver for the team's Formula One outfit. O'Ward has finished runner-up at the Indianapolis 500 on two occasions and continues to compete for Arrow McLaren, remaining one of the most popular and closely watched Mexican drivers in modern American open-wheel racing.
