Pascal Siakam

Athletic and versatile Cameroonian-Canadian forward who developed from raw prospect to NBA champion and one of the league's most complete power forwards.

Pascal Siakam was born on 2 April 1994 in Douala, Cameroon, the youngest of four brothers, to Tchamo, who worked in local transportation and served as mayor of Makénéné, and Victorie Siakam. At 11, his devoutly Catholic father enrolled him at St. Andrew's Seminary in Bafia, hoping he might become a priest, and Pascal showed little interest in basketball, unlike his three older brothers, all of whom earned basketball scholarships to American colleges. Siakam was discovered in 2011 at a camp organised by fellow Cameroonian NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute, whose family lived near the seminary, and after impressing at a Basketball Without Borders camp, moved to the United States at 18 to attend God's Academy in Lewisville, Texas, before playing at New Mexico State University. The Toronto Raptors selected Siakam 27th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, and he developed rapidly, winning the NBA's Most Improved Player award in 2019 while also helping the Raptors win the franchise's first NBA championship that same season — becoming the first player in league history to achieve both feats in the same year. Tragically, Siakam's father died in a car accident in October 2014, and he was unable to attend the funeral. Siakam, nicknamed "Spicy P," was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2024, helping lead the franchise to the 2025 NBA Finals and earning Eastern Conference Finals MVP honours, continuing to honour his Cameroonian roots through a charitable foundation supporting education and youth sports in both Cameroon and Canada.
