Owen Andrew Farrell was born Owen Andrew O'Loughlin on 24 September 1991 in Billinge Higher End, England, the son of Andy Farrell, a rugby league great who converted to union and later coached England and Ireland. When Owen was 13, the family moved to Harpenden after his father signed for Saracens, and Owen — until then devoted to rugby league in Wigan — reluctantly took up union for the first time. Farrell progressed through Saracens' academy and made his senior debut in 2008, developing into one of the most decorated and competitive fly-halves in the history of English rugby, renowned for his relentless intensity, goal-kicking accuracy, and defensive ferocity. He made his England debut in 2012 and went on to captain the national side through multiple World Cup cycles. Farrell captained England to the final of the 2019 World Cup, and was selected for the British and Irish Lions on four separate tours — 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025 — a mark of sustained excellence matched by very few players in the professional era.
