Noureddine Morceli is an Algerian middle-distance runner who dominated the 1,500m and mile in the early 1990s, holding the world records in both events and producing some of the fastest times in history. A tactical master who could race from the front or off the pace, Morceli won the Olympic 1,500m in Atlanta 1996 and was the definitive middle-distance runner of the mid-1990s. Morceli's dominance of the 1,500m through the early-to-mid 1990s, including three world titles and an Olympic gold, made him the standard-bearer for North African middle-distance running before injuries shortened the final years of his career.
