British professional boxer who became the first woman to win Olympic boxing gold, claiming flyweight titles at London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Nicola Adams made history at London 2012 by winning the first-ever women's Olympic boxing gold medal, then defended it at Rio 2016 to become the first boxer, male or female, to retain an Olympic flyweight title. A two-time World Amateur Champion and three-time European Champion, she was appointed MBE and later OBE for services to boxing, and her breakthrough success was widely credited with accelerating the growth and acceptance of women's boxing as an Olympic and professional sport in Britain.
