Myles Christian Turner was born on 24 March 1996 in Bedford, Texas, to David and Mary Turner, and began playing basketball at six, attending Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, where he was named a McDonald's All-American and Parade All-American in 2014. Turner played one season at the University of Texas, earning Big 12 Freshman of the Year honours before the Indiana Pacers selected him 11th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft. He developed into one of the league's most prolific shot-blockers, leading the NBA in blocks per game in both 2019 and 2021.
