Miltiadis "Miltos" Tentoglou was born on 18 March 1998 in Thessaloniki, Greece, and switched from parkour to athletics at 15, quickly developing into one of the finest long jumpers in the world. Tentoglou won gold in the long jump at the 2016 World Under-20 Championships and the 2017 European Under-20 Championships, before progressing rapidly through senior competition, winning the world indoor title and establishing himself as Greece's leading track and field athlete. Tentoglou won Olympic gold in the long jump at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, and defended his title at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a jump of 8.48 metres in front of 80,000 spectators, becoming the first athlete to successfully defend the Olympic long jump title in the 21st century. Tentoglou also won gold at the 2023 World Championships and was named Greek Male Athlete of the Year for both 2022 and 2023, holding the Greek indoor record and remaining one of the most dominant long jumpers in the world heading toward the next Olympic cycle.
