Armand "Mondo" Duplantis

Greatest pole vaulter ever, serial world record breaker.

Armand Duplantis — known as Mondo — was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1999, son of former Swedish pole vaulter Greg Duplantis and raised between the USA and Sweden before choosing to represent Sweden internationally. He became the most dominant pole vaulter in history and the holder of the outdoor and indoor world records. He turned professional in 2018 and won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024. He has broken the world record 9 times between 2020 and 2025, raising it from 6.17m to 6.26m — breaking his own record at successive Diamond League meetings and major championships. His world record of 6.26 metres, set in Clermont-Ferrand in 2025, is the benchmark for the sport. He won World Championship titles in 2022, 2023 and 2024. His technical approach — combining American power vault technique with Scandinavian precision — was developed under his father's coaching from childhood, using a specially constructed vault pit in the family's garden. At Paris 2024 he broke the world record on his final vault of the competition after already winning gold — a gesture of competitive excellence that encapsulated his approach. He has won the Diamond League overall title three consecutive times. Duplantis produced one of the great individual seasons in 2025, going undefeated in all 16 competitions and breaking his own world record four times - 6.27m in Clermont-Ferrand, 6.28m in Stockholm, 6.29m in Budapest and finally 6.30m on his last attempt to win gold at the World Championships in Tokyo, his 14th career world record. He claimed world titles indoors and outdoors, a fifth consecutive Diamond League crown, and was named men's World Athlete of the Year for a season in which he became the first male vaulter in modern history to go unbeaten for two successive years.
