Anju Bobby George is an Indian former long jumper who became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships, taking bronze in the long jump at the 2003 Paris championships.

Anju Bobby George's bronze at the 2003 World Championships in Paris was the first medal ever won by an Indian athlete at a World Athletics Championships — a distinction that made her, at that moment, the finest field athlete her country had ever produced.. She won gold at the 1996 Delhi Junior Asian Championships, and continued to develop through the late 1990s, setting a national triple jump record in 1999. George's international breakthrough came in 2002, when she won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and gold at the Asian Games in Busan. Her defining achievement came the following year at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, where, training under 1988 Olympic long jump silver medallist and world record holder Mike Powell, she won bronze with a jump of 6.70 metres, becoming the first Indian athlete in history to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships. George reached her career-best jump of 6.83 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing fifth and setting a national record that still stood decades later, and won gold at the 2005 IAAF World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo, a result she considered the finest of her career, along with gold at that year's Asian Championships in Incheon. She continued competing at the top level through 2008, winning multiple further Asian Games and Championships medals, before retiring to focus on coaching and sports administration. She received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2003 and the Padma Shri in 2004.
