Mile Jedinak is an Australian former footballer who captained the Socceroos to their historic 2015 Asian Cup triumph and led Crystal Palace to the 2016 FA Cup final.
Mile Jedinak captained Australia to a 2-1 extra-time victory over South Korea in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final on home soil, delivering the country's first-ever Asian Cup title — the defining moment of an international career that also saw him lead the Socceroos through three World Cups across a decade as captain. He moved to the Central Coast Mariners in 2006, becoming an integral part of the club's inaugural A-League Premiership win in 2008, which earned him a call-up to the Australian national team. Jedinak moved to Turkey with Gençlerbirliği and Antalyaspor before signing for English Championship side Crystal Palace in 2011. He quickly became a fixture in the side, taking over the captaincy in 2012-13 and leading Palace to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, winning the club's Player of the Season award. He captained Palace to the 2016 FA Cup final, a run that also saw him become the first Palace player to score at a World Cup when he converted a penalty for Australia in 2014. Jedinak succeeded Lucas Neill as Socceroos captain in 2014 and led the team through three World Cups, in 2010, 2014, and 2018. His defining achievement came at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup on home soil, where he captained Australia to a 2-1 extra-time win over South Korea in the final, delivering the country's first-ever Asian Cup title. He moved to Aston Villa in 2016, helping them win promotion back to the Premier League in 2019, before retiring that year with 79 caps and 20 goals for Australia.
