Australia's most naturally gifted footballer, a left winger whose technical brilliance earned him a move to Liverpool and a distinguished European career.
Harry Kewell was born in Smithfield, New South Wales on 22 September 1978. Australia's most technically gifted footballer, Kewell was a supremely talented left-footed winger with excellent dribbling, pace and goalscoring ability. He came through Leeds United's academy and became one of England's most exciting young players in the late 1990s, helping Leeds reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2001. Liverpool signed him for £5m in 2003 and he won the Champions League in 2005 — though his contribution was limited by injury, he came on as a substitute in the final. He also scored in the 2007 Champions League final, though another injury again cut short his involvement. He spent his later career at Galatasaray, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Heart and Al-Gharafa. For Australia he earned 58 caps and scored 17 goals, appearing at the 2006 World Cup where Australia reached the Round of 16.
Champions League 2005 (Liverpool)
He scored in the 2007 Champions League final for Liverpool against AC Milan — becoming one of a very select group of players to score in multiple Champions League finals, despite his career being plagued by injury.
