Michael Strahan

New York Giants defensive end who set the NFL single-season sack record and won Super Bowl XLII.

Michael Anthony Strahan was born on 21 November 1971 in Houston, Texas, the youngest of six children of Gene, a U.S. Army major, and Louise Strahan, and moved to Germany at nine when his father was stationed there, playing very little organised football during his childhood as a result. He returned to Houston before his senior year of high school to live with his uncle, a former NFL player, and earned a scholarship to Texas Southern University. Strahan set a Texas Southern school record with 41.5 career sacks before the New York Giants selected him in the second round, 40th overall, of the 1993 NFL Draft, developing into one of the most dominant pass rushers in NFL history across his entire 15-season career with the franchise. Strahan set the NFL's single-season sack record with 22.5 in 2001, winning Defensive Player of the Year honours that season, and earned seven Pro Bowl selections and four first-team All-Pro honours before capping his career by helping the Giants upset the previously undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII in February 2008. Strahan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, and has since become one of the most successful athletes-turned-broadcasters in American television, co-hosting ABC's Good Morning America and serving as an analyst on Fox NFL Sunday, balancing two distinct and celebrated careers.
