Maxx Robert Crosby was born on 22 August 1997 in Lapeer, Michigan — his unusual first-name spelling reflecting his unusually large birth weight of 11 pounds, 9 ounces — and moved to Colleyville, Texas, during adolescence, where he attended Colleyville Heritage High School. Crosby played college football at Eastern Michigan, the only program to offer him a scholarship, earning first-team All-MAC honours in both 2017 and 2018, before the Oakland Raiders selected him in the fourth round, 106th overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft.
