English golfer and 2022 US Open champion, first non-American to win both the US Open and US Amateur titles.

Matthew Thomas Fitzpatrick was born on 1 September 1994 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, to Russell and Susan Fitzpatrick, and began playing golf following in the footsteps of his younger brother, Alex, who also became a professional golfer, the pair later becoming just the second brother duo to compete together at The Open Championship. Fitzpatrick attended Tapton School and had a decorated amateur career, winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, becoming the first Englishman in over a century to claim the title, before briefly attending Northwestern University and turning professional in 2014. Fitzpatrick returned to Brookline in 2022 and won the U.S. Open at the very same course where he had triumphed as an amateur nine years earlier, becoming the first non-American to win both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open at the same venue, joining Jack Nicklaus as only the second player in history to achieve the double at one course. Fitzpatrick has continued competing at the top level, known for his meticulous, analytical approach to the game — having logged every shot he has hit since age 15 — and represented Europe at four Ryder Cups, remaining a lifelong supporter of his hometown club, Sheffield United.
